Sustainability & Ethics
Our chocolate:
We use Callebaut chocolate for all our chocolatey needs. Their chocolate is made with quality cocoa beans grown by farmer communities in Ghana, Ivory Coast and Ecuador. Sustainability is important for us, and with Callebaut chocolate you can be confident that this is at the heart of their mission. The cocoa beans are bought as much as possible directly from farmer cooperatives. This way, the farmers earn a better price for their crops, can invest in their farms and improve their livelihoods.
Our chocolate is also part of the Cocoa Horizons programme. For each chocolate bought, Cocoa Horizons reinvests a part in farmer training and farming tools to elevate farmers into experts. With their crops, they can continue bringing you superior taste. And in turn, they make a better living out of cocoa farming.
You can visit their website here for more information.
Our packaging:
Our chocolate is carefully packaged in a beautiful, fully recyclable FSC-approved box and wrapped in a sustainable, translucent paper, which is fully recyclable and compostable. We add an additional glassine pad to protect the chocolates in transit, which is also sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable.
Since taking over Cocoapod, we have worked hard to reduce our environmental footprint. There’s still work to be done but here’s what we’ve changed in the past two years to make our packaging as ethical and sustainable as possible:
- Cut out single use plastic from all of our packaging
- Our boxes are now made from FSC-approved card
- If we ever use bubble wrap it’s been sent to us and we try to reuse it
- Our chocolate boxes and packaging can now be fully recyclable and are biodegradable
- Our packing peanuts are plastic free, compostable, and can be dissolved in water
